CIC Technology Research Director
Ricoh Innovations seeks a dynamic Research Director to lead our technology R&D
team. The role has significant impact on R&D activities within Ricoh Innovations
and our parent corporation, Ricoh Company Ltd. (RCL)- a $20B worldwide leader
in office automation, information technology, optics, VLSI, green technology
and more. Our current Director successfully championed our technology assets
into a new business venture where he now plays a crucial role.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the technology R&D staff (fifteen exceptionally talented researchers)
- Setting research directions in coordination with Ricoh Company Limited (RCL)
planning divisions
- Forming partnerships with internal and external organizations to promote business
opportunities for our research and gain customer feedback
- Continually germinating, and shaping promising new research directions with our
staff
- Identifying and moving mature (beta level) technology into Ricoh products/services
businesses
- Inspiring customers and senior executives in Ricoh with visions of the
future - as enabled by Ricoh's technology
Qualifications:
* Earned Doctorate or equivelant in computer science, electrical engineering,
mathematics, physics, statistics or closely related technical discipline
and 10+ years in research
* Several years of leadership experience in a corporate research position
* Several years of experience managing technical teams through both the technical
research phase, and the business creation phase
* The ability to identify and champion a vibrant research agenda adding value with your
own ideas in combination with the diverse background the existing research base
already provides
* A burning desire, and the ability and experience to back it up, to see research results
placed in a commercially important setting
* Proven ability to generate new projects and appropriately curtail those not meeting
expectations
* Ability to think strategically, act strategically and ensure excellent tactical focus on a
day-to-day basis
* The ability to explain new technology and business concepts to non-technical and
semi-technical audiences, including those whose primary language is not English
* Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
* Technical achievement as principal contributor providing name recognition and credibility
* Entrepreneurial experience (either new venture or corporately funded)
* Experience with technology transfer from industrial research to business division
