Research Scientist in Computational Optics

    The California Research Center of Ricoh Innovations seeks a researcher in Computational Optics
    or closely related fields to join an established team creating new technologies and business 
    opportunities for task-specific digital-optical imaging systems.
    
    The position requires the ability to identify application opportunities, formulate theory and 
    algorithms, to support design of new classes of imaging systems, to help build prototypes that 
    demonstrate key new concepts, and to interact with potential customers to match customer needs 
    with technologies.  A Ph.D.  or equivalent experience is required.  The successful candidate h
    as demonstrated competency and creativity in imaging and optical system design, strong 
    communication skills, and ability to work on multi-disciplinary projects.  Excellent c
    ommunications skills--from writing and presenting technical papers to the professional community 
    through non-expert business colleagues--is required.
    
    

    Qualifications

       
    - Ph.D. in optics, electrical engineering, physics, computer science or closely related field
    - Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems
    - Experience in optical system design software such as Zemax or Code V
    - Strong Matlab, C, C++ programming skills
    - Experience in research-level optical bench work
    - Actively collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
    - Strong verbal and written communication skills
      

    Preferred job qualifications

    - Strong expertise in optics, digital image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, image processing hardware implementation - Expertise designing optical systems - Domain expertise in at least one application-specific imaging area
