Job: Remote Collaboration Research Scientist

Position Description:
Ricoh Innovations is hiring a research scientist to work in the area of collaboration, robust synchronization and stroke sharing to join a team that includes some of the inventors of the Ricoh eWriter product http://www.ricoh-ews.com .

The successful candidate will be familiar with the current state of the art in remote collaboration, shared editing and synchronization. Experience in developing tools and applications to support remote interaction will be required. We’re interested in supporting interaction using single purpose tools, handheld personal devices, group devices like video-conference systems and interactive whiteboards. We are looking for someone with a broad technology background and the ability to architect and develop robust demonstration systems. The candidate must also understand the importance of a fantastic user experience and know how to create one.

Even though we already have a number of projects defined, this position will require the discovery and championing of future research directions for the group and lab. Publication of research results is encouraged. Recent Ph.D. graduates and experienced researchers are welcome to apply


Responsibilities:
• Develop robust synchronization, stroke sharing algorithms and complete systems
• Identify user pain points and difficulties related to remote collaboration for existing commercial and research systems, specifically shared editing and drawing systems, etc.
• Develop and experiment with novel algorithms, UIs and software for linking people, places and tools.
• Contribute to the establishment of a long-term research program in remote collaboration or related areas.
• Communicate achievements to colleagues in the US and Japan

Qualifications / Skills Required:
• Ph. D. in Computer Science or related field.
• Ability to rapidly develop robust demonstration applications (Java, C#, C, Objective C, Python, etc.)
• Experience developing real-time communication on networks preferred.
• Mobile platform development experience a plus (Android, iOS).
• Creativity and proven ability to identify, plan, and direct significant research projects.
• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Experience in UI design and development.
